The first race of the year is finally here and I have to say I am very excited this morning and ready to go. The race isn't until this evening so throughout the coarse of today I am going to be checking my kit, to make sure I have everything packed for this evening and then I will start loading up on carbs and water.
So here's a breakdown of my day:
5:30 - Get woken up by my little man who has been sick all over his bed, the floor and into our bedroom so time to get up and give the poor little dude a nice bubble bat.
6:05 - Back to bed for some snuggles with everyone.
8:30 - Time to get up and start the day with some breakfast for champions...porridge and honey =D
10:00 - Double checking everything is ready and packed and quick dip in the bath before getting dressed and ready for the race (bit early, I know).
11:00 - Cooking up some pasta pie (pasta and eggs), some for now and some for the journey this evening.
12:30 - Everyone has left the house so it must be time for a little siesta.
14:00 - Get woken up by my baby's =D
14:30 - Quick trip up to the shops to get some last minute supplies.
15:15 - Time to get everyone in the car and ready to leave for our 1 and half hour journey to Aldershot Army Barracks.
15:35 - We are on our way...
16:45 - Time to load up on some more pasta pie and water.
17:10 - We arrive at out destination and guess what...IT'S SNOWING !!!
17:15 - Parked the car in front row, got my race chip and straight back into the car so my poor baby's don't freeze to death at -3.
17:40 - Getting undressed and warmed up and going for a quick nervous pee.
17:55 - Time to kiss everyone god bye and go to the finish line and get right up front ready for the race.
18:00 - BOOM - The race begins and we start sprinting full steam ahead down the road and into the dark. The roads are slippery due to all the fresh snow but terrain soon gets rough as we enter the forrest/tank training course.
18:15 - The forest was dark and there where speaker hidden in the bushes everywhere with some extremely loud screaming noises coming from all sides, Blair Witch Project style.
18:28 - Just finished my first lap and all the running on ice is starting to get to my legs a little more then usual but still feeling good and full of energy.
18:40 - Running a steady pace following another solitaire runner who all of a sudden slips on some ice and cracks his head with an almighty thud and does not recognise where he was or who he is. I help him up and hand him over to the marshal who luckily was only a few hundred meters around the corner to give him first aid.
18:50 - I look around and all of a sudden come to the realisation that this is near the finish and start picking up pace and overtaking some runners.
18:55 - I can now hear the spectators and see a light through the dark woods ahead of me...the guy next to me looks at me and we both engage in a sprint to the finish line.
18:57 - DONE !!! And look who was waiting for me =D
All in all the Grim Night Terror was a great race and although the water part of the coarse got diverted due to health and safety reasons it was a tough course with lots of ice, soft sand, freezing puddles and killer hills.
I would like to extend a big thank you to first of all my family for all your support and taking me up there, putting up with my mood on the day and waiting for me at -3 in a mini snow storm. Also a BIG thank you to my sponsors InkSpiration - www.inkspirationtattoo.com who have come on board this year to help raise funds for Julia's House and another thank you to my newest sponsor Vantage Hybrid Sports Nutrition - www.vantage-sport.com who came on board the day before the race and will support me with there amazing range of supplements throughout 2012.
