Motivation to Keep Moving Forward

Motivation to Keep Moving Forward
Evening people,

Ok so we’re nearly into the third week of the new year, and right about now there’s gonna be two type of gym goer out there:

1. You’ve got the bug. You’re seeing slight transformations in your body, you have more energy, you’re starting to enjoy your new healthy diet, you’re excited where this could lead and how much you can achieve. More power to you!

2. You’re starting to dread the gym. You had a spark at the turn of the new year and you promised yourself that this time you’d stick to your resolution of getting into shape. But as it turns out, you’d much rather be on the couch watching repeats of ‘Friends’ or ‘Only Fools and Horses’ dipping Doritos in custard and letting your life pass you by. Get a grip!

Slightly dramatic maybe, but with unemployment rates at a frightening high, that’s probably not too far from the truth with some of you. And you’re not alone. The problem with this country is, we’re too quick to accept the cards we’ve been dealt and use that as an excuse to settle for mediocrity or even failure in our lives. Now you might be thinking what the f**k has this got to do with the gym? Well in short. Everything. It comes down to a positive mental attitude. If you give your all in your workout and really push yourself you will be filled with a sense of achievement. A feeling you may not be getting in other areas of your life. Because the body releases endorphins when you exercise, these hormones can actually make you feel happy, I like to call it ‘gym therapy’ and it will work wonders if you just keep at it. That’s were the domino effect kicks in, if you take that positivity into your job or job interviews then you’ll be much more likely to get that promotion you’ve been after or just a job full stop. You’ll have more confidence in your appearance and that will show in your personality.

Now the point I’m trying to make is you need motivation to get up and do this. Some of you may be self motivated, goal driven people but that’s rare. most of us however, myself included, need some type of motivation or inspiration from time to time.
Recently I’ve read three biographies that take motivation to new heights (the latter in the literal sense). Three guys in completely different fields but reached the top when the odds were heavily stacked against them.

1. ‘Pacman’ Manny Paquiao the dirt poor, skinny Fillipino kid who has gone on to become pound for pound the best boxer on the planet and arguably one of the greatest of all time. (Real rags to riches this one)

2. ‘ARNOLD’ the Terminator himself, a 6 time Mr Olympia from a small village in Austria who changed the world of body building forever. (Sted head, but not the point)

3. ‘Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know’ Sir Ranulph Fienes, a man simply known as the greatest living explorer on the planet. The first man to reach the North and South Poles by surface not to mention climbing to the summit of Everest aged 65! (I dare you not to be inspired by this one).

All enjoyable reads and truly motivational!

Another tool you can use to fire yourself up is Youtube. This particular video has been doing the rounds on Facebook and it actually makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up!

Typically American but it does the job of getting the blood pumping.
Another Avenue I highly recommend is to get a workout partner (if you don’t have one already). Someone who is preferably a bit better than you, who you know will push you on when you’re lacking that much needed boost. If you can’t think of anyone then just look around the gym for someone who seems to be there whenever you are, start up a conversation about training methods and ask how they’re in such good shape? Gym people love having their ego stroked! Ask if they mind you ‘working in’ with them, 9 out of 10 wont. Next thing you know you’re bff’s and you go to the gym all the time because you don’t want to let the other down. Win win.

The other alternative is to come and join me on my weight loss holidays in Spain and let me put you on the right path in one week at
