Eat to Live, not Live to Eat.

Eat to Live, not Live to Eat.
Good nutrition isn't actually rocket science. I mean, most of us know if we're eating something 'good' or 'bad' for us, so the knowledge is there. The tough part is self motivation, persistance and enforcing great willpower to resist temptation. Most people have a weakness when it comes to food, be it savoury or sweet (or if you're unfortunate enough, like me - both!). Again with fitness you've got to want to take an active interest in what you're putting into your body and educate yourself on what it does to you to understand the benefits you can gain from eating well. Now i'm completely guilty of eating the wrong things sometimes - knowingly and unknowingly, the difference now is because I try lead a healthier lifestyle anything I eat that isn't great for my body totally messes me up now - motivation to leave it out of my life (...apart from the odd slip up).

I quite enjoy learning about food and how your body processes it, and have tried to use this knowledge to devise my own nutrition plan to maximise energy levels, help improve metabolism to burn fat and to support the building of lean muscle in my weight training sessions.

So here are a few tips I've found helpful if you're finding it hard to stay on the right path:

Rather than 3 big meals a day, 4-5 smaller meals throughout the day will keep the body metabolising food and energy levels higher - reducing the need to snack.
Reducing the amount of salt and sugar you add to your meals initially is noticable, after the first couple of weeks you'll wonder why you added it in the first place and you're body will thank you for it.
Having something healthy to snack on in your bag helps fight the munchies and the urge to overeat in your next meal, things like unsalted nuts, fruit and raw vegetables (carrots, celery etc) are handy, just don't go mental with the portions.
Drinking lots of water will sort out your skin, your body and clear your head and help you to identify when you're actually hungry and not just thirsty.
If you're wanting to make lots of changes to your diet, introduce them gradually, it's a massive shock to the system if you're making drastic changes and you want to maximise your chances at sticking to this healthier lifestyle.
Social events, unsupportive friends and unplanned trips to the supermarket can all contribute to you deviating from your plan/goal. If it happens don't beat yourself up about it. Forget it, move on and get back on it tomorrow morning. Chances are if it's not a regular occurance it won't actually hurt your goals too much. Pre-plan what you allow yourself on meals out/social gatherings (have a look at a menu before hand if you can to make the best choices). Ignore those who aren't there to help you - they're probably jealous of your determination and don't shop on an empty stomach!

Keep focused on what you want, it IS possible and you WILL get there!
